Emergencies can be hard to predict and emergency services may be unable to reach you in a disaster. It is your responsibility to prepare for an emergency to minimise the risk to life and property. This information will help you plan and prepare.

Make an emergency plan

The First 72 Hours supports you to create an Emergency Plan for your household or business. Building a safer and more resilient community is a shared responsibility across everyone in Victoria, not just those in the Emergency Management sector.

Download the above Emergency Plan Template and fill it out using the following prompts:

  • What Emergency event is your plan for, flood, fire, storm? 
  • Who needs to be considered in your plan, household members, neighbours, immediate family who don't live in the same house as you. 
  • Who is you Emergency Contact, who can you reach out to in an emergency situation. 
  • What will you need to do in an Emergency? 
  • Where will you go if you have to leave home?
  • Where do you get your information from? 
  • How will you evacuate or travel somewhere safer?

  • Important Documents EG medical information, finances, insurance.
  • Home Inventor EG photos of possessions, house assets, receipts or warranties.
  • Contact List, Family members, utility providers. 
Prepare a Kit

Gather and store items ready to support you and your loved ones for 72 hours.

Stay Informed

Golden Plains Shire Council Emergency Dashboard is a centralised online hub which provides real-time, reliable information in an emergency.

The dashboard is mobile-friendly and integrates feeds from VicEmergency, the Bureau of Meteorology, VicTraffic, power and water providers and local emergency services. It also includes links to various social media feeds, emergency radio stations and fire danger ratings.
