The Shelford Community Garden is managed by the Shelford Recreational Reserve and run by volunteers. The project is about bringing the community together, growing local produce and providing physical and social activities.
The Shelford Community Garden is a welcoming, attractive and productive garden space, where local residents meet, grow and share produce while actively participating in a gardening. The garden was established from a community planning idea and was a recipient of a Golden Plains Community Strengthening Grant.
The front garden section provides under cover seating, a BBQ and a grassed area. There are well laid out garden beds, both raised and ground level and an orchard. Visitors, including families with young children, freely wander along the pathways in search of fresh seasonal produce to taste and explore. There are also some quirky art instalments to enjoy.
The back section of the garden is where you can find the Indigenous Edible Garden that consists of a winding gravel pathway that takes you on a journey to explore a very different style of dry garden. The plants have QR codes that provide more information about each individual plant and what they can be used for.
The garden group would gladly welcome new gardeners, both experienced or experimental to join us in developing our garden further.
