Heinzs Road, Cambrian Hill Bore

Council sought feedback from residents within the Cambrian Hill, Ross Creek and Napoleons area on the future of the bore.

Council sought feedback from residents via a short survey regarding the future of the Cambrian Hill Bore. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.

About

Due to safety concerns identified in September 2020, Council Officers were required to close the bore, stand and tank at Heinzs Road, Cambrian Hill. The safety concerns identified included:

  1. Unguarded pump belts
  2. Footings on the tank stand were uneven and sinking
  3. Structural corroding (rust) of the tank stand
  4. Buckling of the tank stand
  5. Location of the fill points across roadway
  6. The height of valve presenting a hazard to operators

In December 2020 and January 2021 Council sought the feedback of residents within the Cambrian Hill, Ross Creek and Napoleons area on the future of the bore, including what residents use its water for and any suggestions for how the bore can be operated.

The current options for Council to consider are:

  • to repair the bore and replace with a new tank and pump; or
  • to install a potable water standpipe running off mains water in a nearby location.

Water supplied free of charge by a municipality is not common in Victoria; however Council currently has a number of operating bores in the Shire.

The current fee for water is a mains water standpipe is installed is $30 for 5,000 litres for the drinking water. The CFA will receive keys for this pump to supplement the current water supply network.

Engagement Update

What Happens Next

The feedback received will now be used by Council to consider the future of the facility at an upcoming Council Meeting.
