Council has endorsed the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan for public exhibition, with further community consultation to be undertaken to determine the tree species to be planted at the eastern entrance to Inverleigh.

Following extensive community consultation, the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan (the Plan) has been developed to detail the approach Council will take to removing and replacing trees in Inverleigh and outlines the ongoing management of significant trees and newly planted trees at four locations throughout Inverleigh.

The Plan was endorsed at the October Council meeting, noting further community engagement to determine the species of tree at the eastern entrance to Inverleigh. This recommendation followed inconclusive results from the Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan survey which was open to the community from Thursday 12 May to Thursday 16 June.

Residents of Inverleigh are once again invited to have their say on the species of tree they would like to see as part of the eastern entrance and are also invited to make a submission on the Plan which is on public exhibition ahead of Council’s November meeting.

The Plan and the survey will be open from Friday 28 October to 5pm, 25 November.

Following adoption of the Plan, works are scheduled to begin in December with the pruning of high-risk trees throughout both the east and west entrances, followed by the removal of trees identified in the plan from December to February. Soil conditioning will then take place in January and February to prepare the soil for planting throughout April and May, 2023.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged all Inverleigh residents to make a submission on the Draft Plan and have their say on the species of tree to be planted at the eastern entrance to Inverleigh.

“The Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan has been developed in partnership with the community and Council is pleased to provide further opportunity for feedback on the plan and the trees to be planted to ensure the plantings meet the expectations of the community.

“The plan is now on public exhibition and Council hopes that community members will review the Plan. I also encourage all Inverleigh locals to share their thoughts on the tree species they’d like to see by completing the survey.”

The survey and the Plan are available on Council’s website and hard copies are available at Council’s Customer Hubs at, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn. Submissions and completed paper surveys may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to: Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331, marked ‘Attention: Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan’.

Submissions close at 5pm, Thursday 25 November 2022. All submissions will be considered prior to the final Inverleigh Tree Succession Plan being presented to Council for adoption at its 29 November meeting.
