Shape Council's Young Women's Leadership Program

Shape the Lead

Young women in Golden Plains Shire are invited to help co-design and shape Council’s new Young Women’s Leadership Program, Lead.

Council is inviting women between 17 and 25 years of age to complete a short survey to provide valuable insight into the inaugural Young Women’s Leadership Program to be delivered to the age group of survey recipients.

Insights gained from the survey will help guide the way in which the program is delivered, the content that is delivered and the guest speakers that will deliver it.

Lead will be delivered to two age cohorts: young women between 14 to 16 and young women between 17 and 25, to ensure content is designed to meet the different needs and interests of women in each age group.

The programs aim to assist young women to develop a strong and healthy sense of self that allows them to be and act in a way they value within the world and respond to barriers and challenges with strong identity and self-worth.

Young women who take part in the program will learn to identify how they can best cultivate healthy, happy lives, develop and achieve goals, and influence confidently and authentically.

Lead will be supported by $39,500 funding from VicHealth which was secured as part of the fast-track council stream of the VicHealth Local Government Partnership and will deliver a number of programs for young people in Golden Plains.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says Council is excited to deliver a program to empower young women in Golden Plains to develop a strong and healthy sense of self.

“We hope to hear from many interested young women with this engagement and look forward to working with them to design an exciting program that meets their needs and expectations.

“Council would like to thank VicHealth for its support of Lead, Council’s Young Women’s Leadership Program, along with a number of upcoming programs for young people to ensure better community wellbeing across Golden Plains.”

The survey is open to eligible community members until 5pm, Monday 21 November, 2022.

The survey can be completed online. Print copies of the survey are available at Council’s Customer Hubs at Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
