The Golden Plains Youth Committee, made up of local young people with a passion to enhance our communities, is keen to see the Youth Lounge in Bannockburn revamped to better meet the needs of local youth.

They want to encourage more young people to use the Lounge, which provides a space for local young people to unwind and socialise in a safe environment.

The Committee wants to improve the space, but they want to do it right, so they are undertaking some research to help ensure they come up with an effective improvement plan. As part of their research, Committee members went on an excursion to Torquay to inspect the Youth Lounge at Surf Coast Shire’s new Kurrambee Myaring Community Centre. This follows a visit the week prior to The Fort in Corio, which is managed by the City of Greater Geelong.

Council extends a big thank you to the Youth Committee for approaching this improvement project with such maturity and commitment to research. We look forward to seeing what enhancements they make at the Youth Lounge.

The Youth Committee meets every Thursday at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 4.30pm-6.30pm and new members are always welcome!
