WORKS UPDATE—FEBRUARY 2017

Major Projects

Below is an update on some of Council’s current community infrastructure projects:

SMYTHESDALE OVAL UPGRADE

This important project in the north of the Shire will feature new goal posts and wicket area, significantly improved drainage, spectator fencing, natural turf for Australian Rules football and cricket, and a new irrigation system.

Contractors are currently installing the new drainage and irrigation systems. The completion of this work will allow the installation of the new turf surface to begin.

Heavy rains in September and October 2016 delayed the start of the project and we are now expecting a completion date of May 2017.

BANNOCKBURN SOCCER PAVILION

This facility will incorporate new change rooms, modern amenities, multi purpose room, first aid area, commercial kitchen, storage areas, perimeter fence and coach’s box to service the recently constructed soccer pitch.

This project was identified in Council’s Recreation Strategy, the Bannockburn Community Infrastructure Development Plan and the G21 Football Development Plan.

The roof has been secured and all brickwork has been completed as we head towards lockup stage. Internal framing, plumbing and electrical fit out is also well underway on the inside.

Work is expected to be completed in April 2017

BANNOCKBURN CRICKET NETS

This project involves three individual cricket training nets that can be converted into one full size multi use synthetic training area. The new nets will offer significantly higher quality nets for Golden Plains’ cricketers, reduce the ongoing maintenance issues of the original nets and improve safety for users.

This project is nearing completion, with the final touches needing to be made before the public can access the facility. The project is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.
