Update on the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy

News

Thank you to all residents who shared their ideas and opinions on how sport and active recreation opportunities will be delivered in Golden Plains Shire, now and into the future.

Throughout February 2020, community members were invited to have their say on sport and active recreation through an online and paper survey or at six conversation posts across the Shire. Council received a total of 286 community survey responses and 33 responses from clubs and committees of management. In addition, 178 people engaged face-to-face with the Council at one of the six listening posts.

Many topics were raised during the consultation, with key areas including:

  • Aquatics facilities;
  • Dog off-leash areas;
  • Cost of sport, and financial sustainability of providing facilities and programs;
  • The need to activate existing facilities and spaces;
  • Improving communications of sport and active recreation opportunities; and
  • Planning for population growth.

A Draft Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2020-2030 is in its final stages and when adopted by Council, the Draft Strategy will be out for public exhibition and comment. To stay up-to-date with this project, visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.
