Upcoming Waste Audit

Waste Management

Later this month, Council will participate in a regional residential waste and recycling audit of randomly selected bins.

The audit will assist with further improving local and regional waste services such as bin systems, programs and education to increase recycling levels and reduce waste sent to landfill.

This study is being conducted across the region, together with other member councils of the Grampians Central West Waste and Resource Recovery Group (GCWWRRG).

In late September, EC Sustainable Pty Ltd, a contractor to GCWWRRG will be conducting the audits of Council residential bin contents put out for collection. This will include:

  • A visual survey of bins presented, such as volume used and condition of Council bins;
  • Collection of bin contents in an EC Sustainable truck on the normal waste collection day;
  • Sorting of bin contents at a waste facility into types of recycling accepted now as well as opportunities for the future; and
  • Disposal or recycling of all material as usual following the audit.

If your bin is selected, collection will take place from the kerbside on your normal bin collection day. No action is requested from you. Households will not be notified individually as to which property will be assessed, to avoid changing sorting and disposal behaviours. The contractors from EC Sustainable Pty Ltd will have an authorisation letter from Council identifying them.

Conditions of the project prohibit reporting of any specific details related to any individual household or personal information. The information collected is analysed and reported in an aggregated form.

If you have any concerns regarding the audit, please contact Council’s Resource Recovery and Waste Officer on 5220 7111 or email [email protected].
