Tenders Approved To Get Works Underway

Media Release

At last night’s January Council Meeting, Council awarded tenders for three of its major projects for 2021.

Inverleigh Change Room and Social Space Upgrade

Council awarded Bowden Corporation Pty Ltd the $1,655,337.40 construction contract for the Inverleigh Change Rooms and Social Space Upgrade. The project will deliver two new female friendly/unisex change rooms with first aid room, massage room and storage spaces; an upgrade of the existing sports pavilion change rooms and toilets; extension of the social space; and upgrade of the kitchen, bar and cool room facilities.

The upgrade is funded by $1,527,300 from the Victorian Government’s Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program, $500,000 from the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, $80,730 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, and $72,000 from the Inverleigh Sporting Complex Committee Inc. Other components of the project, including a new septic system will be delivered separately to the construction tender.

Bannockburn and District Bowls Club Upgrade

The construction contract for the Bannockburn and District Bowls Club Upgrade was awarded to SportsBuild Pty Ltd for the tendered sum of $603,560. The Bannockburn and District Bowls Club Upgrade will see a new 34.6m by 37.6m bowling green constructed, including drainage system and a synthetic surface. The project will also include the installation of 100Lux lighting, perimeter paving, seating, shelters and boundary fencing.

Council has contributed $274,400 towards the project, with the Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation Victoria providing $250,000 and a further $140,000 from the Bannockburn Bowls Club. At the meeting, Council agreed to redirect $96,270 in funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure that had been previously allocated to the Inverleigh Change Rooms project to the Bannockburn and District Bowls Club Upgrade.

Meredith-Shelford Road Widening Stage 2

Council resolved to award the $831,683.08 construction contract for the Meredith-Shelford Road Widening Stage 2 to Bitu-Mill (Civil) Pty Ltd. Approximately 2km of Meredith-Shelford Road from the intersection with Lower Plains Road in Meredith will be upgraded to support a safer transportation network to the nearby Golden Plains Food Production Precinct. This project follows the $1 million Stage 1 works approved last year to widen 2km of the road, and is funded by Council’s Roads to Recovery funding allocation from the Australian Government.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby says these major projects are good examples of Council partnering with Government and the community to deliver better facilities and infrastructure in Golden Plains Shire.

“Council is committed to delivering a number of quality capital works projects for the community this year, with many only a reality thanks to the funding support from the State and Federal Governments, and the community groups who will benefit greatly.

“With infrastructure projects crucial to delivering jobs and the region’s economic recovery, these projects are needed now more than ever. With the tenders awarded for the Inverleigh Sporting Complex Upgrade, Bannockburn Bowls Club Upgrade and Meredith-Shelford Road Widening, we look forward to seeing shovels in the ground soon.”
