Star Volunteers: Golden Plains Youth Committee

Community

In the lead up to Volunteer Week (21–27 May), Golden Plains Shire Council will be sharing information about some of the Shire’s amazing volunteers who embody this year’s Volunteer Week theme, ‘Give a little, change a lot’. The volunteers we are profiling have given so much more than a little; the underlying message of the theme is that often small efforts (in the grand scheme of things), can yield significant positive change.

The Golden Plains Youth Committee currently consists of six local young people who meet weekly to plan events for other local young people.

They volunteer their own time in an effort to build social connections, develop networks and increase opportunities throughout the Shire – how great is that?

These young Committee members work well as a team, give their time generously and are amazing role models for their peers and the youth of our future.

In a short period of time, the Committee has delivered the Youth Empowerment Roadshow, supported the Teesdale Twilight Market and Carols event and established the Golden Plains Youth Movie Nights. There is much more to come for this group in 2018 and beyond, and Golden Plains Shire Council is incredibly grateful for their time, effort and energy.

National Volunteer Week is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers.
