ROAD MANAGEMENT PLAN ON PUBLIC EXHIBITION

Media Release

At its meeting on 25 May, Council received and endorsed the Draft Road Management Plan 2021-2025 for public exhibition.

The Draft Road Management Plan 2021-2025 is a key technical document that sets clear standards and Council’s commitment to managing local roads. The Draft Plan identifies responsibilities, maintenance standards and inspection regimes for all road assets within Council’s control.

The purpose of a Municipal Road Management Plan is to establish a system for Council’s road management functions, which is based on policy, operational objectives and available resources and to set a performance standard.

As required by the Road Management (General) Regulations 2016, the Road Management Plan must be reviewed by 30 June 2021, following the appointment of the new Council. A comprehensive internal review of the Plan was undertaken including input from external consultants and proposes amendments to the hazard identification and intervention response for road asset infrastructure. Data from Council’s CRMS system, inspections, maintenance and repair programs informed the proposed changes in inspection regimes and intervention levels. The plan was also simplified to Plain English and formatted to comply with modern asset management practices.

The Draft Road Management Plan 2021-2025 is available on Council’s Have Your Say page, with paper copies available upon request; please call 5220 7111.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby says the maintenance of local roads is a top priority for Council and the community.

“Golden Plains is a very large Shire and we have an extensive network of more than 1,722km of local roads. It’s a challenge to ensure these roads are maintained and meet community standards within Council’s Budget, and we continue to passionately advocate to State and Federal Government for greater investment in our roads.

“The Draft Road Management Plan 2021-2025 details Council’s commitment to the managing local roads for the next four years and Council encourages residents to review and have their say on the Draft Plan, prior to it returning to Council for adoption at the 29 June meeting.”
