Golden Plains Shire Council is pleased to announce it has secured $250,000 in State Government funding for the Bannockburn Recreation Precinct Second Soccer Pitch construction.
The grant is part of the Victorian Government’s 2018/19 World Game Facilities Fund, which assists local football (soccer) clubs and organisations to upgrade existing or develop new facilities. Council will also be contributing $186,102 towards this important project.
This World Game Facilities Fund grant provides Council the opportunity to cater for the rapid growth of football in Golden Plains and continue supporting community groups such as the Golden Plains Soccer Club.
This new, full-size, pitch complements recent projects at this facility, including the construction of pitch 1, club and change rooms and the installation of sports lighting.
This recent addition to the sporting precinct would not have been possible without the support of the State Government.
Cr Helena Kirby, Mayor, says this funding will have a huge impact on Golden Plains Shire residents’ access to football.
“The Golden Plains Soccer Club, with the support of Council, has worked incredibly hard to increase football participation and provide a wonderful environment for participants to pursue their football interests.
“Council is happy to support the increasing interest in football in Golden Plains, especially in female participation, which is one of our strategic priorities.
“This is also a facility that is used by the Golden Plains Hockey club and the broader community – enhancing this precinct provides for increased participation opportunities and supports our whole community; including the upcoming Cinema Pop Up event.
“Our Council Plan includes a strategic direction of ‘Promoting healthy and connected communities’ and we are so pleased that the State Government stands with us on that objective,” she concluded.
