Partnership project to light up the Bannockburn Bowls Club

Community

On Thursday 18 October, Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced a $250,000 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund grant to deliver the Bannockburn & District Bowls Club Greens Upgrade.

Developed with guidance from Sport and Recreation Victoria and Bowls Australia, the project will include a brand new bowling green as well as the upgrade of the sub-surface and carpet on the existing green. The upgrade will also include the installation of high-quality lighting on the existing green in addition to landscaping, paths, new seating and shelters for patrons and spectators.

Mayor Helena Kirby, is delighted for the Bannockburn and District Bowls Club and for the community.

“This is wonderful news for the Club, whose high-quality programing, fantastic competitions and progressive attitude, have led to participation in structured bowling reaching capacity, despite having just one green and no lights – that’s an incredible effort!” said the Mayor.

“The upgrade will allow this hardworking and passionate Club to provide more opportunities for the local community to play bowls at an excellent venue – during the day or night.”

“It will also allow for the expansion of the highly popular ‘Jack Attack’ and ‘Bowling with Babies’ programs, which are loved by the community,” the Mayor finished.

This partnership project will be delivered with a $250,000 contribution from Sport and Recreation Victoria; $274,400 from Golden Plains Shire Council and $90,000 from the Bannockburn & District Bowls Club.

It is expected the project will be completed by August 2020.
