NAIDOC Week 2021: Heal Country

General

This week is NAIDOC Week, a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The NAIDOC Week 2021 theme of Heal Country invites us all to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country, and seek greater protections for those lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.

Council is committed to acknowledging and working alongside the traditional owners of Golden Plains Shire, the Wadawurrung and Eastern Maar people, and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. In March, Council endorsed its Draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan 2021, and there is more work to do.
