Yesterday, Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Helena Kirby joined in the celebrations at the launch of the Meredith Community Garden.

The sun was out for the event at the town’s newest community space next to the Meredith Sharing Shed. The project by Hands of Change was planned and designed by local students through the organisation’s Nurturing Young Minds program, with construction of the garden’s features also completed by the students and community members over a number of recent working bees.

Council was proud to support the project and program, with:

  • $5,000 funding;
  • A further $5,000 through a second round Community Strengthening Grant;
  • Access to the land where the garden has been built; and
  • Through the lease earlier this year of the then-named Meredith Interpretive Centre.

Council looks forward to seeing the new community garden go from strength to strength in the future.
