The Meredith BMX, Skate and Play Space Upgrade is progressing with exciting concept plans developed for the co-located, multi-age community facility.

Located at the Meredith Recreation Reserve, the project will deliver an upgrade of the existing skate park, the installation of a new playground and the development of new BMX trails.

Council has engaged with community stakeholders including the Meredith Recreation Reserve Committee of Management and Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) in development of the concept plans. A site review has determined that the footprint of the upgrade will require the removal of five mature pine trees. Council will seek to plant replacement trees in a nearby vicinity, following completion of the project.

The Meredith BMX, Skate and Play Space Upgrade is a partnership project of the Victorian Government and Golden Plains Shire Council. On 24 May, Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle MP announced the Victorian Government’s $420,000 commitment to the project, with the concept plans submitted to SRV as part of the grant process.

The project will activate the Meredith Recreation Reserve with safe and compliant active recreation and play facilities, improving recreational opportunities for young people and their families in Meredith.

The idea for the Meredith BMX, Skate and Play Space Upgrade is credited to two young residents of Meredith, Harley Murfitt and Max Love, who wanted to see improvements at their local skate park and took their idea to Meredith Primary School Principal Stephen Trotter and Leading Senior Constable Craig Malthouse. Their upgraded skate park design was presented to Council, who awarded Harley and Max Mayoral Youth Awards last year, and advocated to the Victorian Government to make a commitment to the project.
