Lethbridge Airport to bring big business to the district

Media Release

Sarah Henderson MP, Federal Member for Corangamite, officially opened the Redevelopment of Fuel Infrastructure project at the Lethbridge Airport on Monday 5 September.

The Lethbridge Airport Fuel Infrastructure Project now provides a permanent fuel supply to support the growing aviation tourism, recreation and commercial markets in the Geelong region.

The project has delivered four self-bunded 18,500 litre fuel tanks for the provision of Avgas, Mogas and Jet A1 Fuel and will also provide critical operational capability for both firefighting assets and air ambulance helicopter services in western Victoria. Self-service fuel dispenser/bowser units and a self-service payment unit which will allow for fuel to be available 24/7 all year round.

Golden Plains Shire Council was happy to work with Lethbridge Airport to secure $225,000 from the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund towards this $450,000 project.

Mayor, Cr Des Phelan, says the project will support not only the aviation community, but the local economy as well.

“Lethbridge Airport is rapidly expanding, creating further demand for improved access to fuel.”

“Council is always pleased to support better capability for fighting fires, increased aviation tourism opportunities, a boost to the local economy and create jobs for local people.

“Modelling indicates that fuel uplifting would have a total economic impact of $4.4m per annum, with at least 14 new jobs by 2021, which is just fantastic.”

“This is a huge win for both Lethbridge Airport and for the wider region, and Council would like to thank the Federal Government for their support in this important project.”
