The Bannockburn Growth Plan will guide the sustainable growth of the town to the year 2050, and Council and the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) are encouraging local residents to have their say on the plan.

A partnership project of Council and the VPA, the Bannockburn Growth Plan will identify where and when future housing may be developed, and what infrastructure is needed to support the growing community, such as roads and community facilities, and land for employment and retail. The Growth Plan will set out how the town is likely to change in the future, providing certainty to the local community about what changes to expect in Bannockburn in the next 30 years.

Bannockburn is one of the fastest growing towns in regional Victoria and in the future will face a shortage of available land to develop for new houses. The Growth Plan will identify the most appropriate land for houses and ensure the infrastructure is provided to support these new homes.

The Minister for Planning has assumed planning authority for the Bannockburn Growth Plan, which will deliver 7,000 additional homes and approximately 17,000 new residents in the south of the town, significantly increasing the population of Golden Plains Shire.

Residents are encouraged to complete the Bannockburn Growth Plan survey and share feedback on future growth and renewal, economy and employment opportunities, infrastructure, and environment and water opportunities.

The Growth Plan newsletter and survey have been mailed to every home in Bannockburn, and copies are also available at the Council’s Customer Service Centre, 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn. To complete the Growth Plan survey online, visit

Residents can also chat with Council and VPA strategic planning staff at a Growth Plan conversation post:

  • 8.30am to 12.30pm, Saturday 7 March, Golden Plains Farmers’ Market, 22 Byron Street, Bannockburn
  • 4 to 6.30pm, Thursday 19 March, Bannockburn Plaza, 12/6 High Street, Bannockburn

The survey closes Tuesday 31 March, 2020.

Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey says that the Bannockburn Growth Plan will deliver an excellent outcome for the people of Bannockburn and Golden Plains Shire.

“The Victorian Planning Authority are world leaders in strategic planning and this exciting new partnership with our local council will deliver a top quality result for development in Bannockburn’s South.

“Council is committed to ensuring that our local quality of life is preserved for existing residents, as we continue to welcome new residents to Golden Plains. We want to hear directly from residents and hope they will share their opinion, ideas and concerns now to ensure the development of a successful strategic plan for all current and future residents of Bannockburn.”
