The next Council elections will be conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on Saturday 22 October 2016.

The election will be conducted by postal voting. Ballot packs will be posted to all voters in early October 2016 and voters must ensure their completed ballot papers are in the mail before 6pm Friday 21 October 2016.

Election period ‘caretaker’ policy

In accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1989, Golden Plains Shire Council adopted its revised  Election Period Policy (caretaker period) on 23 March 2016, in order to ensure that the General Election for Golden Plains Shire Council is conducted in a manner that is fair and equitable, and is perceived as such.

This policy means that the current Council must avoid making significant new policies or decisions that would bind a future Council.  However Council will still maintain its day to day responsibilities and determine on required statutory matters such as planning applications.

Specific provisions apply to all councils during the election period. The provisions will apply from midnight on 20 September 2016 until 6pm on 22 October 2016, inclusive.

If you are an Australian citizen you can check your State enrolment details online at vec.vic.gov.au/Enrolment at any time.

How do I enrol?

Complete an enrolment form online at vec.vic.gov.au/Enrolment, or pick one up at any post office or Australian Electoral Commission office and return it to the Victorian Electoral Commission by 4.00 pm on Friday 26 August 2016.

How do I vote in the Golden Plains Shire Council election?

Golden Plains Shire Council election will be conducted by postal voting. Ballot packs will be mailed to all enrolled voters in contested elections between 4 and 6 October.

You will need to carefully follow the included instructions on how to vote correctly and then mail back your completed ballot material using the reply-paid envelope as soon as possible but before 6.00 pm Friday 21 October.

How do I stand as a candidate?
