This Girl Can: Virtual Breakfast

Community

Golden Plains Shire Council has joined with neighbouring councils and recreation groups to hold a virtual breakfast as part of its postponed This Girl Can regional celebration.

The virtual breakfast for sports and recreation providers and participants will be held from 10 to 11am on Tuesday 17 November, 2020, with participants attending from across the region from the comfort of their own homes. The event, focused on empowering more women to be physically active and what clubs and groups can do to encourage this, will feature three guest speakers:

Rochelle Eime, a professor at Federation and Victoria Universities, will bring the latest statistics and industry information on women and girls’ participation in sport and how to do it better.

Maddie Hogan, a three-time Paralympian, will reflect on her time in community sport as a female and how she broke down barriers with her passion to stay active.

Guy Molloy, the Head Coach of the Melbourne Boomers WNBL and New Zealand Tall Ferns, will talk about the role that men have in encouraging more women and girls to participate in sport and recreation.

The online event is open to all, with the first 80 people to register eligible to receive a care package delivered to their door ahead of the event. To register, click here or contact Council’s Recreation team at 5220 7111.

This Girl Can is a Victorian Government campaign to celebrate women getting active regardless of background, ability, age or body shape. Originally planned for late March, the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions saw the postponement of local and regional This Girl Can Week events.

The virtual breakfast event is a partnership between Council, the City of Greater Geelong, Borough of Queenscliffe, Surf Coast Shire, G21 – Geelong Region Alliance, Leisure Networks and Kardinia Park, with funding support from VicHealth.
