Fantastic facilities for Woady Yaloak

Media Release

Geoff Howard MP, Member for Buninyong, officially opened two important projects at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve on Monday 29 August: the BMX Upgrade and the new Female Change Facilities.

Completed in March this year, The Female Change Facilities are a great and important addition to the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve.

The $252,000 project was a joint funding effort by Sport and Recreation Victoria, contributing $70,000, and Council contributing $182,000. The project involved the construction of female amenities, including change facilities, store room, viewing area and a kitchenette.

Cr Des Phelan, Mayor of Golden Plains Shire Council, said it’s a great facility. “The new building provides women and girls who use the Recreation Reserve with a safe and comfortable space to change, which encourages greater participation in sport and recreation.”

The Woady Yaloak BMX Upgrade included a complete rebuild of the existing track, and Cr Phelan said it’s a key upgrade for the community. The BMX Upgrade was a $61,000 project. It was a joint funding effort by Sport and Recreation Victoria, contributing $33,000 and Council, contributing $28,000.

“This new and improved outdoor facility was only recently completed, and is very important to the local BMX community and their families.”

“Before the upgrade, the track was deteriorating and becoming more of a safety concern for the many BMX fans who used the space.”

“On behalf of Council I would like to thank the State Government, for supporting these two projects – they might be smaller scale facilities in the grand scheme of things, but they enhance the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve significantly and make a difference to so many people.”
