Election Period Changes

General

At 12pm tomorrow, Tuesday 22 September, Golden Plains Shire Council will enter the Election Period ahead of October’s Council Election.

Council has an Election Period Policy in place to ensure that the ordinary business of Council can continue throughout the election period in a responsible and transparent manner that does not interfere with the fair and democratic election of the next Council.

In line with Council’s recently adopted Election Period Policy, residents will notice some changes to Council’s regular operations until the Election Period ends at 6pm, Saturday 24 October, 2020. Council’s social media channels, including its Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram pages will see minimal updates, and the Golden Plains Mayor, Golden Plains Early Years, Golden Plains Youth and Arts and Culture - Golden Plains Facebook accounts will not post any material during the Election Period. There will also be minimal content published on Council’s website and some content will be removed that may be considered an electoral matter, if it were to be published during the Election Period.

Any communication material published by Council during this period will be certified by the CEO. To read Council’s Election Period Policy, click here.

During this time, Council’s Customer Service team will still be available to assist residents with questions and enquiries, including in-person visits to Council’s recently reopened Customer Service Centres, through the online customer service portal here, and over the phone at 5220 7111. Private messages on Council’s social media channels will not be actively monitored during the Election Period, and all residents are encouraged to contact the Customer Service team with their questions or enquiries through the ways mentioned above.

Residents and ratepayers looking for information on the election, should visit the Victorian Electoral Commission’s website at vec.vic.gov.au/voting/2020-local-council-election/elections/golden-plains-shire-council.
