Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria

Community

Most domestic building projects are completed to a high standard and satisfy home owners. However, from time to time, things do go wrong and it is not unusual for builders and home owners find themselves in dispute about a range of issues. Many of these disputes escalate over time and can result in stressful legal action for both parties.

Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV) is a new dispute resolution service that provides an effective, impartial service that is able to resolve building disputes for builders and homeowners, without the cost and time often associated with courts and tribunals.

The service is available to building owners, builders, and in some circumstances, architects and sub-contractors. It focuses on conciliation, which involves bringing both parties together to discuss and resolve matters in dispute.

Builders or home owners with an eligible dispute must attempt to resolve their building dispute through DBDRV before they can make an application to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
