ANZAC Day will be commemorated differently across Golden Plains Shire this year, due to the on-going Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Restrictions on gatherings and social distancing measures have meant all local, national and international ANZAC Day services have been cancelled. While this means residents can’t attend one of the Shire’s memorials or travel to the Shrine of Remembrance this Saturday 25 April, there are still other ways to can mark this important national date:
Watch the national service
While the national service will also be closed to the public, a private commemorative service will go ahead to be broadcast by the ABC. The pre-service program will begin at 5am, with the national service to commence at 5.30am.
Watch the Victorian service
Like the national service, the traditional service at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance will be closed to the public. RSL Victoria plans to livestream the private service at 5.45am on its Facebook page.
Light Up the Dawn
ABC Local Radio is supporting the RSL Australia campaign for Australians to stand in their driveways, on their balconies or in their living room at 6am. ABC radio will broadcast The Ode and The Last Post, as well as a minute of silence.
