Coffee, Cake and Mental Health Chats

Media Release

Golden Plains Shire residents are invited to share coffee and cake while accessing information on the mental health and drug and alcohol services available to them at an upcoming series of events.

Barwon Child Youth and Family (BCYF) has partnered with Golden Plains Shire Council and the Victorian Government Government’s Community Activation and Social Isolation initiative (CASI) to run six ‘Let’s Come Together’ sessions across the Shire over the next five months:

  • 2pm, Tuesday 13 July: Meredith Community Centre, 4 Russell Street, Meredith
  • 2pm, Tuesday 27 July: Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 27 High Street, Bannockburn
  • 2pm, Tuesday 31 August: Inverleigh Public Hall, 71 High Street, Inverleigh
  • 2pm, Tuesday 28 September: Teesdale Community Hall, Bannockburn-Shelford Road, Teesdale
  • 2pm, Tuesday 26 October: The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale
  • 2pm, Tuesday 30 November: Lethbridge Public Hall, 25 Russell Street, Lethbridge

At the sessions, community members will be able to come together, share a cup of coffee and refreshments, and hear from BCYF on the mental health and drug and alcohol services available to Golden Plains Shire residents and how to access them.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby says Council is pleased to support the worthwhile initiative from BCYF.

“The ‘Let’s Come Together’ sessions are an excellent initiative, where locals can share a cuppa and some cake and find out more about the mental health and drug and alcohol services that they can access, should they need them.

“With events in Meredith, Bannockburn, Inverleigh, Teesdale, Smythesdale and Lethbridge, I encourage local residents that have any questions about support services or are just looking to reconnect and enjoy some company, to consider coming along.

“Golden Plains Shire Council is proud to partner with Barwon Child Youth and Family and the Victorian Government’s CASI initiative to provide these six free sessions for our community.”

Community members can access more information on the sessions at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events or contact Raquel from BCYF at 0432 688 769. The events are open to everyone, and parents are welcome to bring their children.

The CASI program was established by the Victorian Government to help people maintain important connections with family, friends and community, and to build new social connections and networks of support in local communities, which may have been lost or disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
