Chat with your local Councillors

Media Release

All residents are welcome to meet with their local government representatives at the next three Councillor Conversation Posts for 2019, which have been locked in for Batesford, Teesdale and Dereel over the next three months.

All community members are welcome to attend the upcoming conversation posts:

  • Residents of Batesford General Meeting – 1.30pm, Sunday 8 September, Batesford Hall
  • Teesdale Structure Plan – 3 to 5.30pm, Thursday 12 September, Teesdale Primary School
  • Spring in the Shire Awards Ceremony – 3 to 5pm, Saturday 16 November, Dereel Town Hall

In early 2019, Councillors agreed to continue their regular calendar of conversations posts to give community members a chance to speak directly with Councillors and senior Council staff. They also agreed to increase the regular number of posts per year from four to six, with three conversation posts have already taken place earlier this year at Bannockburn, Rokewood and Inverleigh.

Conversation posts are a great informal way for the community to connect directly with Councillors, and are usually held at community events and publics spaces to increase accessibility. Since 2016, Councillors have engaged with more than 1,300 community members at conversation posts.

Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey says Council’s conversation posts are a fantastic way for Golden Plains Shire residents to directly speak with their elected Councillors.

“Hearing directly from residents is an important part of our job as Councillors, and our conversation posts are a great way for us to get out into communities across the Shire outside of the formal monthly Council meetings.

“I strongly encourage all residents of Batesford, Teesdale, Dereel and beyond to come along to one of the posts and have a chat with us.”
