The Census is happening in August

General

Census Night 2021 is Tuesday 10 August.

Every five years, the Census counts every person and household in Australia.

The Census asks questions about things like your age, country of birth, ancestry, language used at home, work and education.

Census data helps inform decisions that impact you and your community, from schools, healthcare, transport and infrastructure to local services. It is important that everyone is included in the Census so that we are all counted.

You will either get a letter with instructions on how to complete the Census online, or a paper form, and you can start as soon as you get instructions, if you know where you will be on Census night.

It’s important that everyone staying in your home on Census night is included on the form – including visiting family or friends, international visitors and babies.

All personal information collected is kept safe and is not shared with anyone. You and your family can’t be identified by the information you put on your Census.

There is help available for people to complete the Census. For more information visit census.abs.gov.au or find help near you at census.abs.gov.au/findus.
