Celebrating Children's Week in Golden Plains

Media Release

Golden Plains Shire Council is once again proud to deliver an exciting Children’s Week celebration this month.

Children’s Week is a national event held every year during October, giving families and community members the opportunity to recognise the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children. This year, Children’s Week runs from 23 to 31 October.

To celebrate Children’s Week 2021, Golden Plains Shire Council is hosting three pop-up events to recognise children in our Shire and highlight the importance of this year’s theme which celebrates every child’s right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.

Children and families can enjoy the fun, free and educational Children’s Week pop-up events Council is hosting from 11am to 12pm at Bunjil Lookout, 1795 Steiglitz Road, Maude on Monday 25 October; Haddon Lions Woady Yaloak Centenary Park, Haddon on Tuesday 26 October; and Teesdale Turtle Bend, Shelford-Bannockburn Road, Teesdale on Thursday 28 October.

These pop-up events will provide children of all ages from across the Shire with the opportunity to connect, share and learn together as they create their very own friendship rocks, with all the necessary supplies provided. Children attending the pop-up events are encouraged to come dressed in appropriate clothing for a morning full of craft and play.

Friendship Rock kits will be provided to Kindergarten and playgroups within Golden Plains Shire and children will be encouraged to participate in the craft activity during Children’s Week.

Council’s Children’s Week events are supported by a grant from the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and Training to deliver fun, engaging and educational Children’s Week events for the Golden Plains Shire community.

Council’s pop-up Children’s Week events are free and open to all children and families in Golden Plains Shire. The events will be delivered in line with the Victorian Government COVIDSafe Settings.

With strict COVIDSafe protocols and group limits in place, registration is essential. To register, please contact Council’s Early Years team at [email protected] or 5220 7230.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby says this year’s Children’s Week is a great opportunity for young families in Golden Plains Shire to have fun and celebrate children.

“Council is pleased to once again offer inclusive in-person Children’s Week activities after our virtual celebration in 2020. Our Child and Family Services team has done a fantastic job organising what is sure to be a fun and engaging activity day for children and families from across the Shire.

“The pop-up events and friendship rock activities will deliver a fun-filled celebration of Children’s Week for Golden Plains families.”
