Campfire Change For Inverleigh Reserve

Environment

In response to a request from the Inverleigh Police and local Fire Brigade, Golden Plains Shire Council has implemented a ban on all campfires during the declared Fire Danger Period at Inverleigh’s Barwon-Leigh Junction Reserve.

Local police and the fire brigade have responded to several unattended and improperly extinguished campfires in the reserve south of Inverleigh during summer. These unattended fires present a risk to the community during the declared Fire Danger Period.

Council has installed signage at the Reserve that will be removed at the end of the Fire Danger Period and re-installed at the commencement of the next Fire Danger Period. Two permanent signs have also been installed at either entrance to the Reserve.

Campfires will continue to be allowed in Barwon-Leigh Reserve outside of the declared Fire Danger Period when the risk to the community is reduced.
