Battle of the Bands Cancelled

Media Release

Due to the current lockdown, Golden Plains Shire Council has made the decision to cancel the upcoming 2021 Battle of the Bands.

The event, which was previously postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions in June, was scheduled to be held at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Friday 17 September. With the current COVID-19 restrictions in place, Council’s Youth Development Team have been unable to secure a suitable venue to safely accommodate the large-scale youth-led event.

While the 2021 Battle of the Bands will not go ahead, Council is committed to supporting young up and coming artists from across the Shire to gain valuable performance experience. Local musicians, bands, soloist and digital artists who would like to be considered for future youth and community events are encouraged to contact Council’s Youth Development team at [email protected]

Council is continuing to support local young people during lockdown with a range of online activities each week. Golden Plains youth can participate in creative workshops, trivia, gaming and get their bodies active from home with the Golden Plains Youth Online series.

Online activities run from 4.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until Friday 24 September. To find out more visit Council's event calendar.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby encourages young musicians and artists from across the Shire to stay connected with Council and continue raising their hands for future performance opportunities.

“Organising events during a pandemic can be incredibly difficult and it’s disappointing that, despite the extensive efforts of Council and its Youth Development team, the 2021 Battle of the Bands will not go ahead.

“Council is committed to supporting the creative endeavours of young people in our Shire and looks forward to working with our young performers to find future opportunities for them to share their diverse talents.

“While Battle of the Bands has been cancelled, Council is pleased to be providing young people with consistency and opportunities to connect during lockdown with a range of weekly online activities.”
