Bands Set to Battle It Out

Media Release

Golden Plains Shire Council is calling young musicians aged 12 to 25 years to enter the 2021 Golden Plains Youth Battle of the Bands.

The event, postponed due to COVID-19 restriction in June, will now be held at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Friday 17 September. Open to young people aged 12 to 25, the Battle of the Bands is a showcase of young up and coming artists, inclusive of all genres, with bands, soloists, duo performances and digital artists all welcome to register.

The rescheduled event now aligns with the September school holidays, making it more accessible for Golden Plains youth and musicians, bands, digital artists and soloists from across the Shire are encouraged to register and take the stage in front of a supportive audience of their peers.

Performers will be battling it out for some great prizes, supplied by Music Workshop, with a panel of independent judges from the local music community judging performances.

Organised by the Golden Plains Youth Committee, the Battle of the Bands is an event organised for young people, by young people and is funded by the Victorian Government’s FReeZA program. The Committee is supported by Council’s Youth Development Team to plan, implement and deliver all aspects of the event. Through this process, young people gain valuable event management experience and an insight into career pathways in the music and events industries.

Mayor Cr Helena Kirby encourages young musicians and artists from across the Shire to take the opportunity to register as a performer and hit the stage at the rescheduled event.

“We’ve seen some of the incredible creativity of Golden Plains young people recently, with the Youth Photography Competition, and the Battle of the Bands is yet another opportunity to showcase their diverse talents.

“Battle of the Bands is an exciting opportunity for young performers to take the stage in front of a large, supportive audience of their peers and gain valuable performance experience.

“As a youth-led event, Battle of the Bands not only highlights the emerging talent we have in Golden Plains but also provides young people with important development opportunities within the music and events industries.

“While the postponement of the event was disappointing, we are pleased the rescheduled Battle of the Bands will kick off the school holidays with a celebration and allow increased preparation and rehearsal time for performers.”

Performers can register by contacting the Golden Plain Youth Development Team at [email protected] or 5220 7111.
