Baby boom in Golden Plains Shire

Community

Golden Plains Shire has seen a baby boom, having just experienced our highest birth rate on record.

A massive 272 births were recorded for the 2017-18 financial year, with 84 of these to first-time parents. The most significant increases were seen in Smythesdale, Bannockburn and Inverleigh.

As a result, our Maternal and Child Health nurses have been busier than ever, providing a free and confidential service for families with children from birth to school age. They provide support and advice on family health and wellbeing, child health and development, parenting (and more!), and are incredibly passionate about what they do. This is why they are so highly respected and valued by the families they cross paths with.

Congratulations to all the families who are welcoming new babies into the world, and well done to our Maternal and Child Health team for providing an invaluable service to, and for, them.
