Another Fun Filled Children's Week

Child & Family Services

The YMCA Recreation Centre in Bannockburn was filled with fun, laughs and plenty of smiles last Wednesday 23 October for Golden Plains Shire Council's Children's Week Celebration.

Children’s Week is a national event held every year during October, giving families and community members the opportunity to recognise the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

Council's Child and Family Services team put together a highly successful free community event at the YMCA Recreation Centre, with more than 220 families, children and educators enjoying the morning.

Children and their families participated in activities from Urban Upcycle children's art and craft workshops to hula hooping, as well as enjoying free fruit and vegetables. Families from the north of the Shire did not miss out, with a free bus organised by Council bringing families from Smythesdale and Rokewood down for the morning.

Council received a $700 grant from the Victorian Government to support the delivery of this year's Children’s Week event, and partnered with Urban Upcycle, YMCA, Hoop Sparx, Geelong Regional Library Corporation, Bannockburn P-12 College, Bunnings Warehouse, Leisure Networks, Bannockburn Woolworths, Bannockburn Tennis Club and Bannockburn Soccer Club to ensure there was a fun-packed program for all participants.
