Golden Plains Shire Council has decided to move its Council meeting times to early evening in response to a request to make them easier for members of the community to attend.
Starting from 27 February, Council will move ordinary Council meetings from the current start time of 4pm, to a new start time of 6pm. The intention is that an early evening start will provide the opportunity for more members of the community to attend.
Mayor, Cr Helena Kirby, says she wholeheartedly supports the decision, which was decided by Council last week.
“We were elected to represent the people of Golden Plains, and it’s important that people know we want to interact with them as much as possible – this is one of the ways we are demonstrating that.”
Cr Kirby encourages more members of the community to come to the monthly meetings, saying they can be of great benefit to the local community.
“Attending Council meetings is a great way for interested residents to learn about what is happening in Golden Plains, from planning applications, to upcoming events, recognising high achieving citizens and how decisions are discussed and passed by Council,” said Cr Kirby
“I aim to lead an inclusive and collaborative Council; we all want to consult and collaborate more with our communities and provide residents with a wonderful place to live and work,” she finished.
The first early evening meeting will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 27 February, at the Linton Customer Service Centre Council Chambers, 68 Sussex Street, Linton.
