Golden Plains Shire Council has endorsed six community projects to share in nearly $2.2 million funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.

In May, the Australian Government announced Council would receive an additional $769,282 on top of the $1,333,655 already allocated to Golden Plains Shire council under Phase 4 of the LRCI Program, bringing the total funding allocation to nearly $2.2 million. The funding will be available from July 2023.

At its February 2023 meeting, Council endorsed the allocation of the initial $1,333,655 for valuable road and community infrastructure projects:

  • Drainage improvements across the Shire: $808,665
  • Sebastopol Smythesdale Road Safety Improvements: $310,000
  • Inverleigh Golf Club Septic System: $150,000
  • Ross Creek Public Toilet and Septic Upgrade: $45,000
  • Safety Fencing at Linton Recreation Reserve: $45,000

At this week’s 23 May Council meeting, Council endorsed allocation of the additional funding for a valuable road project:

  • Slate Quarry Road Widening: $780,000

Prior to commencing the projects, Council must submit them to the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development for final approval.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said Council was pleased to endorse all of the valuable road and infrastructure projects to be funded under Phase 4 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Council thanks the Australian Government for its significant, nearly $2.2 million allocation to Golden Plains Shire as part of its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program. The program has been a valuable source of funding for Council to support the delivery of road and community infrastructure upgrades across the Shire.

We are committed to delivering much-needed road repairs and infrastructure upgrades for our residents. Now that Council has finalised the list of projects, I look forward to seeing the works get underway following approval from the Australian Government.

The Australian Government’s LRCI program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
