Celebrating Volunteers in Golden Plains

Volunteers In Action

To celebrate National Volunteers Week, Golden Plains Shire Council has today launched its Volunteers in Action photographic exhibition, which is currently on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before the exhibition travels up north to Smythesdale later this year.

The photographs in the Volunteers in Action exhibition showcase Golden Plains Shire volunteers in action and were captured by Golden Plains Youth volunteers, who visited volunteers in their communities to take photos of them doing what they love.

The Volunteers in Action exhibition aims to capture moments that go unnoticed and highlight the everyday, helping the community gain new appreciation for the contributions volunteers make to Golden Plains Shire.

Each photograph is accompanied by a short profile of each of the volunteers, from CFA Volunteer Firefighter Jenny Taylor who became a volunteer after her daughter joined the junior brigade, to Member and Treasurer of the Bannockburn and District Garden Club and the Golden Plains Arts Inc Rosslyn Bossnar, who became a volunteer following a health scare.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the Volunteers In Action exhibition was a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contribution of volunteers in Golden Plains.

The Volunteers In Action exhibition champions the vital work of volunteers in the Golden Plains community and celebrates their diverse offerings and unwavering generosity.

This year, the photographs in the exhibition were captured by youth volunteers who went out and visited volunteers in their communities, doing what they love. Not only was it wonderful for the young volunteers to have the chance to meet other volunteers and see them in action, but it has also resulted in a delightful collection of photographs to highlight the work of volunteers in Golden Plains.

I would strongly encourage community members to visit the exhibition to gain a new appreciation of our volunteers by sharing in their stories. The exhibition will tour the Shire, beginning in Bannockburn, before heading to Smythesdale in September.

The Volunteers in Action exhibition will be on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre until Wednesday 18 October before moving to The Well in Smythesdale from Saturday 21 October, 2023 until Tuesday 16 January, 2024. The exhibition will return to Bannockburn where it will be on display at the Golden Plains Civic Centre from Wednesday 17 February, 2024.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2023 is The Change Makers. The week-long event recognises the vital support that the millions of volunteers in Australia provide to their communities and encourages people to consider volunteering.
