Work experience and traineeships

Golden Plains is a great place to begin your career.

We offer a diverse range of opportunities, roles and experiences, and a supportive work environment where you can explore your career aspirations and gain real-life experience.

Work experience (secondary students)

We are proud to support work experience opportunities and pathways for local secondary students interested in learning about the diversity of Council activities and careers.

If you are interested in work experience with Golden Plains Shire Council, have a chat with your school career advisor or work experience coordinator and they can assist you to prepare an application.

Once we receive your application, we will do our best to see whether your request can be accommodated.

Eligibility and conditions

  • You must be at least 15 years old and be enrolled in high school at the time your application is lodged.
  • Placements are typically between 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before the date you would like to commence work experience. This gives us an opportunity to plan for a potential placement.
  • Local students and community members experiencing disadvantage or barriers will always be prioritised.

Student placements (tertiary)

We host a range of placements for undergraduate and postgraduate university students as well as those completing study through registered training organisations.

A placement with us will provide you opportunity to grow your knowledge and technical skills within a diverse workplace, also allowing you to explore and learn about the many career pathways and services offered by Local Council.

We currently support placements for Civil Engineering, Kindergarten Teaching and Maternal and Child Health Nursing students however are open to exploring other fields or mentoring arrangements where provided plenty of notice.

Eligibility and conditions

  • You must be a student at an approved educational institution.
  • Personal injury insurance for the student must be covered by the relevant education institution.
  • Applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before the date you would like to commence a placement with us. This gives us an opportunity to plan for a potential placement.
  • You will need to undertake a police check with satisfactory results before you will be able to commence a placement.
  • You will need to produce a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) if seeking a placement in roles delivering services to children.
  • Local students and community members experiencing disadvantage or barriers will always be prioritised.

 

Traineeships and apprenticeships

From time to time we offer traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities to local community members. These will be advertised on our vacancy page and through relevant agencies.

Traineeships and apprenticeships provide local community members with career pathways at an entry level to acquire new skills and gain work experience in a diverse organisation. 

A traineeship with us will provide you with plenty of opportunities to explore a variety of fields and career options in a supportive and engaged workplace where no one day is the same as the next.
