Community groups are encouraged to apply for a Community Strengthening Grant from Council in Round Two of the 2022 program, with grant drop-in sessions to begin this month and applications to open in September.

Applications for the second round of Council’s Community Strengthening Grants Program will be open from 9am, Thursday 1 September to 2pm, Friday 30 September, with grants of up to $10,000 available in four streams:

  • Healthy Active Living – to support recreation, sport, health and wellbeing projects
  • Creative Community – to support arts and culture projects
  • Environment and Sustainability – to support projects that improve the environment
  • Community Safety – to support projects that equip communities to be safe and resilient

Groups must match the amount of funding sought, either in cash or through in-kind contributions, such as volunteer work on the project.

To support community groups applying for a Community Strengthening Grant, Council is running drop-in sessions across the Shire. Community members are encouraged to stop by and discuss their project ideas at one of six sessions on:

  • Thursday 25 August: 6.30 to 7.30pm, online via Microsoft Teams
  • Monday 5 September: 3 to 5pm, Meredith Community Centre, 4 Russell Street
  • Thursday 8 September: 11am to 1pm, Rokewood Mobile Library, Ferrars Street
  • Tuesday 13 September: 3 to 5pm, Bannockburn Library, 25-27 High Street
  • Friday 16 September: 10am to 12pm, The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale
  • Thursday 22 September: 6.30 to 7.30pm, online via Microsoft Teams

A link to online sessions will be shared on Council’s website on the day of the session.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged all Golden Plains community groups to apply for the second round of the grant program.

“Community Strengthening Grants are a valuable source of financial support for local events, projects and programs in our Shire and we look forward to receiving many great grant applications in Round Two of the 2022 program.  Applications are open for the month of September and I encourage all Golden Plains community groups to apply.

“Council is supporting community groups through the application process, with six drop-in sessions to provide the opportunity for local groups to discuss their project ideas and learn more about the application process.

“In the first round of this year’s grants program, Council was thrilled to award a combined $78,346 to 16 community groups to deliver 17 projects across the Shire. We are proud of our hard-working local community groups and residents and we are committed to supporting them to fund and deliver their projects, programs and events through this grant program."
