Bushfire Planning

The Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO) replaces the existing Wildfire Management Overlay. The BMO ensures that careful consideration is given to development applications in areas considered a high bushfire risk.

Applications under the BMO must be accompanied by a locality plan and site description a bushfire management statement (used to calculate the defendable space and construction requirements and show how the application meets the relevant objectives, standards, mandatory standards and decision guidelines of the BMO).

Applications will be assessed in accordance with BMO requirements and referred to the Country Fire Authority (CFA). The CFA will advise Council of the required permit conditions and whether or not it approves of the planning permit being issued.

Permits issued in accordance with the BMO will include a mandatory condition requiring owners to continually maintain the bushfire mitigation measures included in the planning permit.
