Rain Water Tanks

Rainwater tanks are a great way to reduce your water consumption and reduce stormwater on roads, drainage infrastructure, creeks, streams and beaches.

Rain water on plants

Many households within Golden Plains Shire rely on rainwater for drinking water supply either because they do not have a mains drinking water supply or by choice. Rainwater tanks that will be used for drinking purposes should be installed in a way that will minimise the risk of contamination.

Rainwater tanks should also be maintained so that they do not become potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.

For guidance and best practice on installation and maintenance on rainwater tanks refer to the Department of Health and Human Services publication ‘Your private drinking water supply’.
