Is your Golden Plains community group looking for funding for a project or program?
Applications open Thursday 1 April for the first round of Golden Plains Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Grants Program 2021.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available in four categories:
- Healthy Active Living – to support recreation, sport, health and wellbeing projects
- Creative Community – to support arts and culture projects
- Environment and Sustainability – to support projects that improve the environment
- Community Safety – to support projects that equip communities to be safe and resilient
Groups must match the amount of funding sought, either in cash or through in-kind contributions, such as volunteer work on the project. Applications are open until 5pm, Friday 30 April, 2021.
Mayor Cr Helena Kirby encouraged all Golden Plains community groups to apply for the annual grant program.
“The Community Strengthening Grants are a valuable source of financial support for local events, projects and programs in our 56 townships and we look forward to receiving many great grant applications in April.
“This year, more than ever, we hope that our community groups will have a range of wonderful ideas for projects that will bring our communities together and strengthen our local recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For many it’s been a tough year and Council’s Community Strengthening Grant program will help deliver dynamic and meaningful projects that celebrate and strengthen healthy and active living, creativity, our environment and community safety in Golden Plains.”
In 2020, Council awarded $146,212 to 33 Golden Plains community groups in two rounds of the Community Strengthening Grants Program. The funding supported a diverse range of valuable projects including improving community facilities, protecting biodiversity in local reserves and helping local children deal with the impacts of family violence trauma.
The list of local projects funded by the Community Strengthening Grants program in 2020 include: Inverleigh Golf Club’s disc golf project, community signage in Ross Creek/Smythes Creek, history boards in Rokewood/Corindhap, Smythesdale Arts & Music Fiesta, spectator seating at Haddon Recreation Reserve and accessible tracks for the Friends of Bannockburn Bush.
