Environment and Sustainability

Golden Plains Shire's natural environment boasts wide open plains, beautiful river valleys and rolling hills with significant remnant native vegetation. Weeds, drought and climate change all present threats to our environment. Together, the community and Golden Plains Shire Council are playing an active role in responding to these challenges.

Environment Strategy 2019-2027

The Golden Plains Shire Environment Strategy 2019-2027 was formally adopted at the January Council meeting.

The Environment Strategy 2019-2027 encompasses both the ‘built’ aspects of Golden Plains Shire, including water, amenity, emissions and economic land-use, as well as the ‘natural’ parts of the environment, such as biodiversity, fire management, pest plants and animals, and sustainable agriculture.

The aim of the Strategy is to create a framework to help Council and the community to best manage the various environments of Golden Plains Shire, and guide projects and decision-making.

The adopted Environment Strategy can be found here Environment Strategy.
