This program is for all people 65 years and over to participate in an ‘Active Body, Mind and Spirit’ physical exercise program. Each weekly session within school terms we do fun things like -walk the Skipton Rail Trail, yoga moves for bone health, meditation, chair exercises and stretching just to name a few. It is all about connecting with people in our community. We aim to increase participants understanding of the many and varied benefits of having regular physical activity as part of their everyday lives, while also making new friends.
Byron Yoga Centre Accredited teacher, Alana Rushton facilitates the exercises, and promises it’s for people who have never moved before, or are afraid they have no co-ordination but if you can breathe – you can participate.
The project run through the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA) in collaboration with Musculoskeletal Australia and the University of Sydney with an Australian Government Grant through Sports Australia’s ‘Move it AUS – Better Ageing’ initiative.
This event is part of This Girl Can Week, which runs from 23 to 29 March 2020.
This Girl Can is a Victorian Government campaign to promote physical activity for women and girls. The campaign is dedicated to encouraging more women to give physical activity a shot, whether this is trying something new, returning to a long-lost activity, or visiting a local activity provider or sporting club.
