Community Planning

Community Development Program

The Community Development Program engages residents and local communities in planning for their future. The program assists community members to work together to:

  • Identify needs, issues and opportunities
  • Decide on the priority actions or projects
  • Establish groups they will work with to achieve agreed goals

Twenty communities have developed their own community plans with the assistance of a community development facilitator. These plans have become one of the most important planning tools, with each community identifying what it needs or requires to meet the challenges of the future.

Towns with community plans are:

1. Barunah Park
2. Batesford
3. Berringa/Straffordshire Reef
4. Cape Clear/Illabarook/Rokewood Junction
5. Dereel
6. Enfield
7. Grenville/Garibald
8. Haddon
9. Inverleigh
10. Lethbridge
11. Linton
12. Meredith
13. Napoleons
14. Rokewood/Corindhap
15. Ross Creek
16. Rural - Wallinduc Area
17. Scarsdale
18. Shelford
19. Smythesdale
20. Teesdale

Community Coordinators

Community Coordinators play an important role in the implementation of townships plans. Coordinators recruit residents for specific projects, monitor the progress of priority projects, identify new or emerging issues for their community and pass information to and from the community and the Council. Community Coordinators are nominated by their local community and meet regularly with a Community Facilitator.
