Public Holidays
Golden Plains Shire residents have been granted a part-shire public holiday in place of the Melbourne Cup public holiday.
Louise Asher, Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business, has made a declaration of alternative public holiday dates for the east and the west of the Shire. Melbourne Cup Day will no longer be a gazetted public holiday in Golden Plains Shire.
All who work within the Shire will receive the public holiday for their place of work.
The two new dates are:
Friday 19 October 2012 (Geelong Show Day) is now the gazetted public holiday for the areas EAST of Wingeel Road, Gumley-Mt Mercer Road and Meredith-Mt Mercer Road.
Friday 9 November 2012 (Ballarat Show Day) is now the gazetted public holiday for the areas WEST of Wingeel Road, Gumley-Mt Mercer Road and Meredith-Mt Mercer Road.
Bannockburn Customer Service Centre, the Linton Customer Service Centre, Smythesdale Business Health and Community Hub and Northern Community Centre will remain open on these days.
The approval for the alternative public holiday dates is given one year at a time, therefore the dates mentioned are for 2012 only.
